Fresh Cut Flowers,Vegetables and Confections
Wilowhead Family Farm is located in the stunning Hamlet of Elora, Ontario and managed by Gerald, Shirley and Elizabeth Shoemaker. In 1974 Gerald and Shirley began their dream together as farmers. Their complete dedication, passion and love lead them to operate as a Dairy farm for 35 years. As time moved forward, the direction of the farm changed and their daughter Elizabeth decided to return to the family business. Although we are no longer a Dairy farm, we are still passionate about other aspects of honouring the land we live and work on. Gerald is known in the community for his precision and knowledge of crops, animal husbandry, welding and is a proud advocate for farming. He is always building/engineering something that will help improve the production or process for the many working parts of daily operations. Shirley is a Life-Long member of the Elora and Salem Horticultural Society and brings a wealth of information to the planning and execution of our Cut Flower Operation. Additionally, she has many years of experience in catering, event planning and overall operations of the farm. Elizabeth brings yet another perspective on what it means to be a farmer. She is passionate about the quality of food and as a Red Seal Chef,Le Cordon Bleu Paris Patissier Graduate and Canadian Armed Forces Veteran, she loves to see the smiles on customers faces as they try one of her pastries made with ingredients grown on their family farm. She also has a passion for growing and producing flowers and vegetables and loves to create the bouquets that you will see at the Farm Stand and the Elora Farmers Market. You will also see Elizabeths partner Mike at the Elora Farmers Market and around the farm. He is a Civil Engineer by day and a superhero at night helping out with planting crops, animal care and is never afraid to get his hands dirty doing any job that needs to be completed. They are expecting their first child together in April 2020 and can't wait for everyone to be able to meet her at the Elora Farmers Market and at the farm stand. Together as a team, we operate a small scale cut flower operation, grow heirloom vegetables and bake up classic Pastries that your whole family can enjoy. Simple,Beautiful and Produced with Love.
